Protecting . Inspiring . Empowering. Girls’ Futures

The BBBG Project is dedicated to empowering teenage girls and young women (ages 13–17) to build confidence, embrace their identity, and develop the knowledge and skills to form healthy, respectful relationships—helping prevent the harmful effects of dating and intimate partner violence.

Transforming lives across Kansas City through prevention, mentorship, and community partnerships.

In collaboration with organizations like The LINC Program, The Walker Foundation, Giving Hope & Help, and many others, we have:

  • Reached more than 300 girls across Greater Kansas City through elementary, middle, and high school programming and community partnership events.

  • Hosted sessions at Garcia Elementary, Warford Elementary, Center Middle, Hickman Mills Middle, Central High School and our newest school addition, Kansas City Girls Preparatory Academy.

  • Led transformative sessions at The Walker Foundation’s, Annual HAIRitage Day Events

  • Provided empowerment training for Kansas City Ms. Juneteenth Pageant contestants.

  • Partnered with organizations like Giving Hope & Help and The T-Zone to provide training during community events and summer programming.

  • Provided essential guidance on self-esteem, self-love, self-advocacy and healthy relationships to every participant.

Additionally, our EmpowerHER and Little Queens sessions have become vital community anchors, offering consistent support and mentorship. Through these programs, we are building a foundation of confidence, resilience, and self-worth in the young women we serve.

The ToolBox

  • 1. Laying the Foundation: Building Self-Value and Self-Worth

Teenage girls everywhere face pressures that can impact their self-esteem and sense of self-worth. For Black girls, these pressures are often intensified by systemic racism, colorism, and narrow beauty standards, can make them more vulnerable to unhealthy relationships. At the BBBG Project, we intentionally address these realities — empowering Black girls to recognize their worth, celebrate their individuality, and foster a positive self-image. And while our work is centered on the experiences of Black girls, our commitment to building confidence, resilience, and healthy relationship skills extends to every girl who takes part in our program.

  • 2. Embracing Identity: Loving the Skin They’re In

Once a sense of self-worth is established, we guide girls in embracing their whole selves—both inside and out. This includes celebrating their celebrating their diverse beauty—ethnicity, features, and shades of beauty, as well as recognizing their character, talents, skills, and temperament. By helping them understand that their individuality is a blend of who they are inside and out, we teach them to value what makes them different and unique. Through this process, they learn to take pride in every aspect of who they are, fostering confidence and self-acceptance.

  • 3. Building Strength: Resilience, Self-Respect, and Advocacy

With a solid foundation of self-worth and pride in their identity, we equip teenage girls and young women with the tools to navigate life’s challenges. Through resilience training, they learn to adapt to change, recover from setbacks, and thrive in adversity. Lessons in self-respect, advocacy, and boundary-setting empower them to stand firm in their values, prioritize their well-being, and confidently use their voice. These skills are essential for every girl to thrive in school, relationships, and life, and we intentionally uplift Black girls who face unique challenges.

  • 4. Creating Connections: Healthy Relationships

The final step is teaching girls how to develop and sustain healthy relationships. Building on their strong foundation, we help them identify the attributes of healthy relationships—trust, respect, communication, and equality—and learn to recognize early warning signs of unhealthy dynamics. Through practical tools, mentorship, and a supportive community, we prepare them to make informed decisions and establish meaningful connections grounded in mutual care and respect.

  • OUTCOME

Together, these four pillars prepare girls to thrive with confidence and resilience — and to create safe, healthy relationships that ripple into stronger families and communities.
